Benjamin Joost-Meyer zu Bakum
Bass Trombone – Orchestra academyBenjamin Joost-Meyer zu Bakum is a German bass trombonist and academist in the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne since the 2024/25 season.
He studied his junior degree and his bachelor's degree at the Detmold University of Music with Prof. Otmar Strobel and Tino Mönks. An Erasmus semester also took him to the Royal Conservatory in The Hague to study with Ben van Dijk. He then began his master's degree with Prof. Fabrice Millischer at the University of Music in Freiburg im Breisgau.
Benjamin is third prize winner of the 2024 Jeju international bass trombone competition, the 2024 trombone quartet competition in Strasbourg, and second prize winner of the alumni association's and GFF wind interpretation competition of the Detmold University of Music with the Leborts Quartet.
At the University of Music in Detmold and Freiburg, Benjamin was also chairman of the general student committee and since 2024 he has been a probationary member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.
