Daniel Raabe studied cello with Wolfgang Boettcher, Zara Nelsova and Lynn Harrell, whom he also assisted. The founding member of the Ponche Quartet was awarded a one-year fellowship with the LaSalle Quartet and he made guest appearances at the Aspen Summer Festival. Daniel Raabe was a member of the chamber orchestra of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and co-founder of the Oriol Chamber Orchestra in Berlin. He has always been intensively involved with new music. Thus he was a member of "work in progress" in Berlin, played with the musikFabrik NRW and is a regular guest with the Ensemble Modern. Since 1990 he has been a cellist with the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne; he is also a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
