The gate to heaven opens right with the first measure. Mozart’s glorious Mass in C Major appears to be music from another world. The title »Coronation Mass« was added after Mozart’s death, at a time when this luminous piece of sacral music had become the soundtrack of preference at solemn ceremonies such as the Habsburg emperor coronations. Nowadays, the »Coronation Mass« is no less fascinating, being one of those pieces of music that simply does not wear off, no matter how often one listens to it.
This concert celebrates the Gürzenich Orchestra’s century-old liaison with the Musikpflege at the Cologne Cathedral.
