»Sound the trumpets« is the motto of Johann Sebastian Bach's Christmas Oratorio. They are just as important as the festive trombones, horns and tuba when the brass players of the Gürzenich Orchestra light up the Philharmonie in a pre-Christmas concert. A musical cruise through the history of music, where distances are irrelevant: from Venice, where Giovanni Gabrieli made heavenly sounds rain down from several galleries at the same time in 1600, the journey takes us to Hansel and Gretel's enchanted forest and then on to the America of swing and pop with stops in between. Now Christmas can come!
